C is for ……

Image is for cat and cancer. Not two things that usually go together but in my case they do. Here is the story of Cindy the Cat who helped me through cancer.

It started innocently enough: we would keep them out of our bedroom at night and when Adam got up in the morning to feed them Cindy would race back to check on me go eat and then come back and sleep with me. Then we gave in and let them in and now Cindy either on me or right next to me and Goldie at the foot of the bed for a while and then she leaves.

In September of 2011 I had a hysterectomy and I was worried about Cindy sleeping on me. It was funny when I got home from the hospital and I was laying down. Cindy came up to me and laid down on my legs like normal. She put her paw on my belly and I said ow so she removed it. She kept testing till she found the happy medium. Once that was established she laid her head down and purred.

In October 2011, I was diagnosed with Stage One Ovarian Cancer and I can’t begin to explain how essential Cindy was in my recovery. Even though family and friends rallied by my side no one could be with me all day every day. And it felt like Cindy took over the job of watching when I was home alone. It seemed that she never left me except to get food, drink and use the litter box. Cindy knew what part of me hurt and wouldn’t lay on it or near it. It was great to have a warm ball of purring fur around me at such a trying time.

I’m fully recovered and Cindy still spends her days and nights with me.

  1. Lovely story. It’s amazing how animals just know when something is amiss. I struggle with depression, my cat knows when I am having a bad spell and she stays by my side. Love her for it 🙂

  2. Yes- cats are wonderful when one is recuperating. Love this post.

  3. Cats are wonderful. I’ve had them all my life, and I love them.

  4. I am so glad that you have recovered. Sometimes, animals are more responsive and sensitive in healing our wounds, physical or mental. Nice post. A hug to Cindy.

    C for Cocoon!

  5. C is for Cindy ( not cancer) Now you have recovered from it, forget about what you have suffered in past.
I really feel good that you have a nice pet. Your post speaks how animals are emotional and sensitive.
