Change with Balance

In January I decided to write 500 words a day. At some point I stopped and then I forgot that I made the decision to write 500 words a day. Okay I didn’t forget I just decided one day that I was not going to write 500 hundred words a day. As the year continued I found myself missing the writing and what I could discover about me and about my world if I wrote.

Some good friends are holding/going to an event called Launch Out in June and they have this quote on the website. “Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” Mark Twain.

It is a quote that I have seen before and have never really thought about. Today it hit me: what am I waiting for. My time is now and with that spirit I have decided to chose a word/phrase for the year. I know that June is around the corner but I have decided that you do not have to wait till January to make changes. For example in December Jon Acuff launched the Empty Shelf Challenge. The gist of the post and the challenge: January is an arbitrary month. You make changes when you want to make changes and it does not matter what month we are in.

So without any further ado here are my words: Change with Balance. I know that is three words but in reality it is one word. You can have change and throw yourself out of balance. Balance means that you do not throw everything out when you change. That is why I chose change with balance. I know that some things in my life need to change and I want them to but I do not want to loose the good things that I currently have in my life.

I realize that everything can not stay the same It is just that simple. I know it sounds complex but it really is not. Things must change. I need to change my eating habits so that I lose weight; I need to exercise so that I lose weight; I need to write so that I can finally figure out if my writing can provide me with income. I think that it can but will never know until it does. I have to find out these things.

One of my favorite Bible verses of all time talks about balance and how everything has a season.  Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven: a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted; a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;

There was even a song written about the verse. called Turn Turn Turn and is my favorite version. I still can’t believe that I actually linked a Bruce Springsteen video that came from CMT. When you watch the video you will realize that it was because of Roger McGuinn was on stage with him playing guitar and singing.

All of these quotes and videos are meaningless unless I make the conscious  decision to change. More on that coming up.

Writing Goals

Halfway through the year and I have not written as much as I would like. So starting Monday I am going to write 500 words a day. Not sure if I will publish all of them. But I will write at least 500 a day if not more.

I am thinking of joining JuNoWriMo which would challenge me to write a novel in the month of June. I have a week to make the decision. Right now I have no ideas for novels and that is why I think it would be a good idea. Use this next week to plot a novel and see what happens in June. Hubby is pushing me to do NaNoWrMo which is in November that would make 2 novels in less than six months.  I own Scrivener which makes it easier to plot out ideas and keep track of stuff.

Okay. Time to go and plot.

Z is for…..

Z is for Zentangle® which has been trademarked so that is why I have the trademark symbol after it. This comes directly from the website: Here’s some suggested copy that you can use: The Zentangle® Method is an easy-to-learn, relaxing, and fun way to create beautiful images by drawing structured patterns. It was created by Rick Roberts and Maria Thomas. “Zentangle” is a registered trademark of Zentangle, Inc. Learn more at

The concept of zentangle® came into my life when I really needed stress relief and I have been using on and off for about three years. The reason I like to zentangle is that you can’t make a mistake. Your “mistake” just becomes part of the pattern. You can tangle on almost any surface and get a good result. For example I’ve seen dominoes that were bought at goodwill used. I’ve seen tangles on canvas and part of a bigger art piece. There is no end in how  they can be used in your art or just to relax on a nice sunny day. In closing I’m going to post  few resources that will include pictures and patterns which you can use to get started with zentangle®

  1. Newsletter
  2. Wiki-How
  3. Sandy Steen Bartholomew has tons of zentangle stuff and her blog is the perfect place to find inspiration.
  4. One of the best places to find patterns
  5. Check out this frog. I love it and can envision making it sometime.

Y is for…..

Y is for yellow.  Yellow is the color of gold, butter and ripe lemons and in a color wheel which is used by painters yellow is found between green and orange. School buses  and sunflowers are also yellow.

I live in Oregon and we call rain liquid sunshine. I’m so happy that we are finally getting to the time in the year where it is still light in the sky at 9pm at night. That is why it pays to live this far north in a temperate climate.

One other thing that I love that is yellow is my cat’s eyes. You may remember Cindy from my C post. I know that Cindy has yellow eyes but so does Goldie (hubby’s cat) so here is a picture of both of them.

X is for …..

Image is for xerox.  Xerox is a company and also an action. An xerox is a copy of something. For example: xerox this article means that you make a copy of the article.  It is a paper copy and is usually in black and white. During the past 5 years xerox’s in color have become more affordable and therefore more available for the average office.

Xerox is a publicly traded company and has been around since 1960. They manufacture the machine that makes the copies that are called xeroxes.

W is for…….

Image is for Walter Wombat. I know that it kind of weird so let me explain.  I first heard of wombat’s from my husband who decided to nickname me: his wombat princess after seeing a picture and deciding that they were cute. I told him that if you’re going to call me that then you need to get me a wombat. That is how I got Walter Wombat.

In August 2008 I had a ruptured aneurysm in my brain and for some reason Walter Wombat gave me comfort.  He would sit at the end of my bed in ICU and .  I would get the same question: what is that? I would say a wombat and explain how my hubby got him for me. I can remember being agitated and then being handed Walter Wombat and instantly calming down. Now Walter Wombat has a place of honor in my family room.
